How it is made

Five rules, and they do not bend

  • Microsoft's own pages only. Announcements, documentation and the roadmap — never a news site, never an aggregator, never a summary of a summary.
  • Dates are quoted, not inferred. A date is spoken only when the page itself carries it; when a page carries none, the brief says so instead of guessing.
  • Every claim carries its link on the slide and on this page, so a listener can check the whole thing in a few minutes.
  • What it does not say gets its own chapter. The limits of a change are usually the useful part.
  • No names. No Microsoft employee, no customer, no tenant, ever.

Microsoft fused Chat into Copilot Search and put Office inside the new Copilot app

  • Microsoft 365 Chat now runs inside Copilot Search — finding turns into doing
  • New SharePoint report maps Everyone-group permissions, unblocking oversharing stalls
  • Copilot Analytics adds Cowork adoption; Office arrives in the new Copilot app

What moved, and what it does to your number

  1. Microsoft 365 Chat now lives inside Copilot Search, so finding turns straight into doing. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (consumption): Every search that becomes an action is a prompt that runs; the handle turns faster across seats already activated, widening consumption you placed.
    • Who to call: Accounts with Copilot seats deployed but low weekly active use on Windows and Web
    • Opening question: “When your people search in Copilot today, can they act on what they find without leaving the result?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft 365 Copilot release notes — 6 October 2026
  2. SharePoint Advanced Management now reports item-level permissions for the Everyone groups. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (activation): Oversharing fear is the top blocker to switching Copilot on; a report that maps it clears the path to activate seats already bought, no entitlement removed.
    • Who to call: Accounts holding Copilot seats back over oversharing or content-governance worries
    • Opening question: “What would it take to be confident Copilot only surfaces what each person is already allowed to see?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft 365 Copilot release notes — 6 October 2026
  3. Copilot Analytics now shows Cowork adoption and impact across its dashboards. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (consumption): Proof of adoption is what justifies widening; a dashboard that shows Cowork landing reroutes the next talk from whether to how much further to turn the handle.
    • Who to call: Accounts past pilot that need usage evidence before widening Copilot further
    • Opening question: “Can you see where Cowork is actually landing across your teams, and where it has not yet?”

What moved, and what it does to your number

  1. Usage-based billing default-on slides to December; a 4,000-credit default limit is now public · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (consumption): The meter ships on, so credits accrue on proof of use — entitlement rerouted into what the customer actually runs, never removed.
    • Who to call: CSP customers buying Copilot Business through a partner
    • Opening question: “When the meter arrives already on, who on your side watches the dial?”
    • Microsoft's page: learn.microsoft.com/partner-center/announcements/2026-october — 1 October 2026
  2. At SharePoint GA, 'advanced work' is carved out of the licence and draws on Copilot Credits · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (new workload): Everyday Copilot stays entitled; advanced work is new consumption that grows as people lean on it — the heavy lifting rerouted onto the meter, never removed.
    • Who to call: Accounts running content-heavy SharePoint and OneDrive
    • Opening question: “Where does your team already wish Copilot did the heavy lifting?”
    • Microsoft's page: learn.microsoft.com — SharePoint & OneDrive GA — 30 September 2026
  3. Work IQ opens public preview, grounding Copilot and agents in Dynamics 365 and Power Platform data · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (new workload): It opens a consumption line wherever the customer's real business data lives — entitlement widened into new ground, not shifted off anything.
    • Who to call: Dynamics 365 and Power Platform accounts curious about agents
    • Opening question: “Which decisions would change if Copilot could see your business data, not just your documents?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft — 30 September 2026
  4. CSP growth margin goes live; Microsoft 365 Copilot is a qualifying workload · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (renewal): Your economics, not the customer's price — growing Copilot across the base earns incremental margin; the handle turns faster with every seat activated.
    • Who to call: Your own CSP practice lead
    • Opening question: “Which Copilot renewals this quarter now clear a growth threshold?”
    • Microsoft's page: learn.microsoft.com/partner-center/announcements/2026-october — 1 October 2026

Microsoft relaunched Copilot as one experience — Home, Code and Autopilot — with two billing meters

  • New Copilot unifies Home, Code and Autopilot on Microsoft IQ and Fabric IQ
  • Usage-based billing now covers Cowork, Code, Autopilot and frontier models
  • Nonprofit promos stack; growth-margin eligibility opens ahead of 1 October 2026
This week's brief — the film's opening chapter
Audio · 5:31

What moved, and what it does to your number

  1. Cowork, Code, Autopilot and frontier models now run on usage-based billing, not the flat seat. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (consumption): A consumption lever: the meter widens each time a team runs a task, and the handle turns faster as real work lands.
    • Who to call: Accounts already on per-seat Copilot that are piloting Cowork or agents
    • Opening question: “Which teams run agents today, and where would you want that usage to widen next?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft blog · 25 September 2026
  2. Microsoft named FinOps for AI — its own layer to govern Copilot spend and tie it to outcomes. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (renewal): The confidence a cautious buyer needs to widen usage: spend is governed, entitlement rerouted to what proves out.
    • Who to call: Finance-cautious accounts holding Copilot back until they can see and govern the spend
    • Opening question: “If you could see consumption by team and reroute it to what works, where would you turn the handle faster?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft Learn · 23–25 September 2026 — 25 September 2026
  3. Nonprofit Copilot promotions now stack on top of the standing fifteen percent offer. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (activation): An activation lever: more seats live on the same commitment — a wider base that consumes.
    • Who to call: Nonprofit accounts buying Copilot through a CSP partner
    • Opening question: “You can stack these offers now — which teams do we activate first?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft Learn · 23–25 September 2026 — 24 September 2026
  4. CSP partners can validate eligibility for growth margins ahead of the 1 October 2026 launch. · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (renewal): Entitlement rerouted into margin on growth — validate now so nothing stalls when it goes live.
    • Who to call: CSP partners carrying customers whose Copilot footprint is growing
    • Opening question: “Have you checked which customers qualify for growth margins before it goes live?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft Learn · 23–25 September 2026

New Copilot Business licenses via CSP default to usage-based billing from 2 November 2026

  • CSP Copilot Business defaults to usage-based billing, effective 2 November 2026
  • The default posture moved — limits still set; existing seats untouched
  • Agent 365 named as agent control plane in government-cloud G7
This week's brief — the film's opening chapter
Audio · 5:22

What moved, and what it does to your number

  1. New CSP Copilot Business licenses ship with usage-based billing on by default · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (consumption): The meter arrives switched on, so consumption is in the path from day one — growth you'd have chased is already flowing, and the handle is yours to widen.
    • Who to call: CSP customers buying Copilot Business through a partner, with new seats or renewals landing after 2 November 2026
    • Opening question: “When your next Business licenses land, do you want the usage handle set where growth shows, or dialed to a limit?”
    • Microsoft's page: Partner Center — September 2026 announcements — 16 September 2026
  2. Agent 365 named as the first-party control plane for agents in government-cloud G7 · Confirmed on Microsoft's page
    • Why it matters to your number (new workload): First-party agent governance in government cloud signals where agent control is heading — a new workload conversation to open before agents multiply across the estate.
    • Who to call: Government and GCC accounts weighing agent rollout
    • Opening question: “As agents multiply across your tenant, who decides which are allowed to run, and where does that decision live?”
    • Microsoft's page: Microsoft 365 blog — G7 launch, 15 September
